My boyfriend got a 10 week old puppy saturday (10-29-11). All the puppy wants to do is play when we are trying to sleep. We want him to learn that when the lights go out and we are in bed that its bed time for him also. He also hasn’t really went to the restroom in the house either. He would cry when he wants out but sometimes I cant get to him fast enough so he went to the restroom like 5 times in the house since we had him. Am i doing the right thing when he crys to take him outside?
PLEASE HELP ME!
Thanks,
Hannah & Dalton

I will get him on a friday so i have till monday for him to get used to his new environment but there is a problem. He is going to be an inside dog but only when i am at home when i am at school he will be out side so how do i get him used to peeing out side and after peeing inside ??? and he is going to sleep in my bed at night so is he going to wet it ???

Ok so i plan on getting a golden retriever and i am 13 yrs old. I have asked these questions before but i never really told anyone about my plan so here it is and also i have a question
Wake up at 6:30 feed dog and play with it all the way to 7:15
then i get ready for school (it goes for 6 hours)
i will leave chew toys and get a dog walker to come to my house at 12 to take my dog for a walk.
at 3 when i get back from school i will feed it play with it take it for a walk to the oval train him (sit, shake, wait, roll over, lie down, and even play dead) then i will let it in the house and it will come to my room while i do homework then i will take him to the lounge watch some Tv have dinner read a book get ready for bed then go to sleep with my dog at my side .
Now does this sound like a good plan ? or is my dog going to be board out of his mind in my back yard for six hours (i have a big backyard its nearly bigger than my house and instead of a wooden fence its made out of tall brick so theirs no way of escape and he will also have a dog walker) and on the weekends i will take him to the beach or river.\
Also if my whole plan thing is a good idea how do i toilet train my dog is it possible that i can show him were to go inside and outside he can go were ever (i will clean it up) so will he learn that he can go outside when ever he wants and inside he has to go in one spot also how do u train them to go in one spot??? and as i said the dog will sleep in my bed so how can i prevent him from wetting it ?? should i just bye him a bed on the floor till he gets potty trained and he can come and sleep with me ???
and if this hole plan is not good please dont be mean about it and i have had dogs before but they were dingos (legal) and german shepherd mixes from the pound were i adopted them so i have never toilet trained pups before and they had each other to play with while i was at school XD
thanks xoxox
and i will play with it when i had my other dogs i was with them every day i was literally glued to them and i need to have my day planed out if i want to take the responsibility of a puppy

Hey everybody! I have a tricky question Coco my 8 week old Labrador will not sleep. On the first I slept with her downstairs and when she began to cry I patted her back to sleep. But last night I left her by herself and she cried non-stop and so loudly that earplugs wouldn’t even block her out. I understand that she is homesick, coming from a litter of 8 puppies she had 7 other brothers and sisters to play with, but I would really like it if we could both sleep at night! I also gave her a radio to sleep next to but she really wants someone to be there with her! Help!!!!!! I’m running out of ideas!
P.S. I have also tried pretending to sleep next to her, that works until she wakes up and finds I’m not there.
P.P.S any help with bathing either?
Thank you all !
umm now she is fast asleep and staying asleep for long periods of time, should i wake her up and play?
we are bathing her at midday
thanks for all your answers!

Today i started the crate trainin method. We kept him in a big box wich is of corse very clean and safe.
Put 2-3 papers down. His water dish and a toy so he feels home.
Whenever he makes a noise or cries we take him out in the place we want him to relieve. Will he learn this way??
He gets veryyyy bored in the box and tries to get out of it whenever someone passes. He is a aggressive chewer.
Is it nessecery to keep him all the day in the box?
Cause he DOES NOT sleep in there, cries jumps and all sort of stuu to get out of it… We kept him in the soil thinking he want to relieve but he slept there, took him to fav place and he dozed off. Is it alright?.
Should we keep him in the box at night?.
One of our servents sleep in a cot next to Tango(our pup)
Does this method work really? Cause Tango is not yet completely trained to leash and follow so we pick him from box to soil and back. Will it work if i keep him in the crate for 5-6 hrs a day?. Or for complete training full time?

We just got a new puppy black lab. She is just 8 weeks old, and picked her up about three days ago. I’m totally new to owning a dog. (My last pet was a hamster when I was 9 or so, haha) Does anyone know any good training tips I could get, anything from potty training it to teaching it simple commands. I am worried about doing something wrong and making her really aggresive or unintentially giving her the wrong ideas.
For instance, I am trying to get her to sleep in her cage, right now she sleeps in my room, with her cage in my room. I leave the cage door open, and leave her bone/chew toy in the cage, hoping that she will see the cage as her own personal room, not an area to punish her. Yet every night, she comes out and sleeps under my bed.
Anything can help. If someone could give me an e-mail to get in contact or anything like that, I would be really apprciative. I just wanna bring up the dog right.
Thanks in advance.
Edit – See, the funny thing is about potty training…she does hold it all day! I take her out enough that she doesn’t have an accident on the floor, and she always goes outside…i’d say 90% of the time she usually does it outside, and the rest of the 10% of the time is when i’m out snowmobiling or something and not at home. I praise her afterwards, and when we come in, she sits right in front of me and looks up. It’s very cute and funny, and at the same time, very amusing to see such a young lab pup doing all these things!

I’d like a breed of a dog who will guard a 1 yard big backyard. He has to family friendly and get along with my cat. And be OK with a small place to sleep. Easy to train and fetch. About the size of a Labrador.

I have a couple questions. I adopted a pitbull/lab mix last night and I was told he was around 8 weeks old. I really don’t think he is, he barely has any teeth, so I fed him wet food, and he has this pink bump on his butt. I am taking him to the vet today, I just wanted to get advice on Crating him and helping him with his teething.
Where I got him from they kept him outside in the durt and I keep my dogs inside. I have him in a crate as he is not potty trained. My other lab who is 2 sleeps in his bed. The baby cried and cried. I took him out, i played with him, he pottied and still no sleep. So I gave him a little bit of milk and bam he was done crying and passed out for a couple hours. This went on all night. I just didn’t give him milk every time. So my question is what is a good way to crate train?
Second question, he is teething, he has toys but all he wants to do is suck on my finger, not bit but suck. Is this part of teething? This is my first puppy, so if these questions sound stupid sorry. My other lab I rescued when he was a year.
it is very cute when he suckles my finger. I was so worried that he is not getting the right food he needs. He is a cutie.
Thank you for the advice on the crate. I don’t crate my other dog at night, because he is potty trained so I have never crated at night. It weakens my heart

I have a yellow lab that’s 3 months old and we’ve been crate training her since we got her 4 weeks ago. We keep her in there most of the day so she can get used to a routine place to sleep and feel safe at. We take her out periodically to potty, eat, play, etc. But the max we keep her out to play is only like 20 minutes because she will potty in the house. We scold her when she potty’s in the house and praise her when she potty’s outside. Sometimes even give her a treat. Here’s what her day looks like:
- Early morning we take her out to potty (usually because she barks and informs us that she needs to use the bathroom.
- Feed her when we bring her back in and then let her play for about 20 minutes after eating and then take her back outside to potty.
- Put her back in the cage for another 2 hours or until she barks to go outside again.
We repeat that throughout the day and it really seemed like she was getting the hang of it so we started leaving her out for longer. But she still potty’s in the house when we do that. We have a toy yorkie as well but he goes to the door and barks to let us know when he wants to go out. It seems our lab hasn’t learned that trait whenever she needs to potty. Any help on something that we can do to help her learn easier? Or any tips on how to better potty train her? It just doesn’t seem like what we’re doing is working.
