My fiancee and I just got our first chocolate lab puppy! She’s the sweetest little dog but we have to get down to business and start potty training her cause we have carpet and the landlord can be a stickler sometimes! any useful tricks to help us potty train our newest family member? do they train easily with reward. I got this dog for my wife to be because i heard they were loving, loyal, and extremely smart! I am clueless about potty training because I come from the country part of texas and all the dogs were outside roaming the yard, this is our first true indoor dog. I know she will fit perfectly with us because we are always outside doing something (fishing, hunting, swimming etc). any help with this situation would be very useful! Thanks!

my 4 month old black lab puppy just doens’t understand the concept of potty taining. she knows that when she pees or poos on the carpet that she’s in trouble but she refuses to ask to be let out. we take her outside every morning where she’ll go pee. it doesn’t really matter how long we stand out there if she wants to poo she will if not the second i head back upstairs to finish getting ready she’ll poo in the living room. when my husband went on a trip the situation got out of control. every day i came home from work to find several pee and poo piles. one day we confined her to one room in the house so as to reduce damage. when we got home we found she had escaped by digging at the carpet so she could get her paws under the door to pull on it. confining her doesn’t work and since i have to be at work for at least 8 hrs a day it seems cruel to put her in a crate and since i live in colorado the weather is still too cold to be keeping her outside. plz help!!

So, I’ve been trying to kennel train my 10 week old lab puppy but I’m not so sure if I’m doing it correctly so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is what I am currently doing: I bought a kennel that’s the made for an adult labrador and stuffed the back with his toys and put blankets in it. Before bed, I take him out for him to do his business and then put him in his kennel. If he’s sleepy he will stay quiet but sometimes he’ll whine just for wanting to play. He starts barking when he really needs to go poo or pee which usually at odd hours of the night and I let him out into the yard and then put him back in his kennel. If I don’t do this, he will usually release in the kennel. Am I doing something wrong? Advice would be much appreciated! Thank you all

Can you recomend some internet resources from which I could find out something about raising and training a lab puppy so I would be prepared to keep up with its growing up. I have never had a lab, I’ve got 13 months old Alaskan Malamute so I would like to do some homework on the breed. Thank you

We’re getting a 5 week old retriever/lab puppy today and I’m interested in potty training techniques. My family has always just tried to take the puppy outside ever 15-20 minutes, until they get used to it and learn to hold it. My fiance’s family has always piddle pad trained them. I’ve read some negative things about piddle pad training, such as they have accidents later on in the house, can’t tell the difference between the floor and the piddle pad, etc. I’m just wondering if ya’ll have pro’s and con’s for each and/or personal experience.

I recently adopted a Black Lab puppy. She is approx. 3 months old. I am looking for breed-specific training information regarding Black Labs. I don’t need basic training info; I know how to train a dog. I need specific training info on Black Labs: what works, what doesn’t, certain training patterns they are resistant to, etc. Anything would be appreciated. I haven’t really been able to find exactly what I’m looking for online.
Thank you!
