My in-laws, with whom my husband and I are currently living with have two dogs. Both are rescues, one is a Labrador/Border Collie, she is spayed. The other is a terrier mix that we have had less than a week now, she is not spayed but is going to the vet for that on Thursday.
ANYWAYS,
This morning I had a doctors appointment, so I opened the front door (I had NO idea that the dogs were not trained to NOT bolt out the open doorway!!) And out run the dogs.
I am 34 weeks pregnant and I was unable to chase them down, so my father-in-law had to.
The first dog he grabbed was the terrier mix (who seems to think she’s MY dog, and rightly so, I feed/train/walk/play with/let out to go to the bathroom) he grabbed her by the SCRUFF, and lifted her up (she is NO pup), she yelped, and he tossed (yes tossed) her into the yard. How he got the lab mix I don’t know, I had to leave. He is VERY gentle with them otherwise, but his punishment methods are HORRID!
We are living with them until at least March.
How can I train these dogs to NOT bolt out the door and face his "punishments" they will not follow through on a training method I set up despite my experience in dog training.
The lab mix will not listen to anyone other than her master (father-in-law), the terrier mix listens to ME.
Any help would be appriceated.
I have never tried to train a dog without everyone training them the same way.

I currently just bought a German shorthaired pointer-choclate lab mix from a breeder. It is known as a hunting dog and i need help on how to train it. I am a experinced hunter, but i would now like to start using this dog. It is 6 weeks old and a girl, still a young puppy. I would like to know any training methods, when to start training and what to use and how to do it. I will be hunting mainly small game, like birds and squirells. I also live in GA, if that helps. Mostly will be hunting in woods, or over water. Thank you…

How do we take care of labrador puppies?

I have a 3 year old labrador retriever (possibly mixed with a weimeriner).
He’s been an indoor dog all his life and is very friendly and hasn’t grown up living with any dogs.
Although from time to time he has been around them and he is nothing but friendly with them.
We started going to a dog park within the last year and take every now and then where we let him run with the other dogs.
It all started out good.
He played well, was a little nervous. But nothing grand.
Well lately whenever the tennis ball is thrown and another dog gets it he gets so angry and starts barking and fighting with the dog.
So we’ve taken him out for a while to try to identify how to fix the problem.
He seems to get really jealous when someone gets the toy before him.
Can i train him to stop being like that this late in the game?
And how can i do it?
It’s sort of hard to not surround him with toys because all the people at the park bring toys and most of the dogs all play together and then my dog sees the toy in the air and goes after it.

I might be adopting a 9 month old. Just wondering if they like the water and are hunting dogs or if I can still train 9 month olds. Also how big do they get? Any information would be great!

I may be getting a dog in the future. Like not in the close future, the far future. But I was wondering the average cost of puppy vaccinations. And if this helps, a Labrador puppy (:

So, I’ve been trying to kennel train my 10 week old lab puppy but I’m not so sure if I’m doing it correctly so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is what I am currently doing: I bought a kennel that’s the made for an adult labrador and stuffed the back with his toys and put blankets in it. Before bed, I take him out for him to do his business and then put him in his kennel. If he’s sleepy he will stay quiet but sometimes he’ll whine just for wanting to play. He starts barking when he really needs to go poo or pee which usually at odd hours of the night and I let him out into the yard and then put him back in his kennel. If I don’t do this, he will usually release in the kennel. Am I doing something wrong? Advice would be much appreciated! Thank you all
